Psychology plays an essential role in the ICU, providing emotional support to patients and their families. The continuous presence of psychology professionals has evolved over the years and was emphasized during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a special focus on mental health care. The implementation of a 24-hour on-call system for psychologists in the ICU could be a positive legacy, ensuring personalized care and early detection of psychological distress. This approach would also benefit healthcare professionals by reducing their workload.
