Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the importance of theoretical and practical knowledge for the development of a model for inventory management and its simulation. Using the ARENA ® application, knowledge was generated to be directed to application in business operations. With the results, it was concluded: on the one hand, in modeling, it was essential to know theories that gave support to describe the limits and behavior of the system through input parameters; on the other hand, the analyzes can be difficult to be interpreted as cause-effect relationships, especially in discovering whether the results were effects of the interrelationships between the variables or of the randomness of the modeled system.
