Abstract

This study aimed to identify the competitive priorities that guide the strategy and alignment of the soybean and corn supply chain in Mato Grosso State (Brazil). To do so, it used themes from the theory of organizational strategies as competitiveness, supply chain management, and competing priorities. To ensure coherence between the set of different theoretical currents, qualitative exploratory research was used as the method, with 12 managers related to the soybean and corn supply chain. For data collection, an in-depth interview with a semi-structured script was used. The data were processed through content analysis, supported by the Nvivo 11.0 software, which results revealed that quality, cost, innovation, technology, costing credit, and reliability were the most used competitive priorities for the strategic alignment of the soybean and corn supply chain in Mato Grosso State (Brazil). Given these results, it was possible to evidence the alignment of these priorities among the agents in the chain. However, points of conflicts and contradictions were detected, which can be mitigated with supply chain management. Furthermore, the study contributed to the consolidation of competitive priorities as an effective instrument for the strategic management of the soybean and corn supply chain. The study presented empirical evidence of alignment and misalignment points among the agents involved in grain production.
