Abstract

Brazilian life expectancy is increasing, and financial planning for retirement is essential if we are to grow old with peace of mind. The aim of this study was to identify the behavior and perception of undergraduate students in relation to personal financial planning for retirement. The target audience was undergraduate students at the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL - MG) - Campus Varginha-MG. To this end, a quantitative and descriptive survey was carried out in the second semester of 2022, with the voluntary participation of 179 students. The main results were that the students recognize the importance of financial planning for retirement and have knowledge about the Brazilian pension system, but most do not feel confident with this knowledge. Finally, it was found that more than half of the sample does not carry out pension planning due to lack of knowledge or resources, and, of these, the majority intend to start financially planning their retirement.
