Socio-emotional skills are necessary for proper emotional management, given interpersonal relationships at work. The study aims to analyze the role that socio-emotional skills play in the performance of managers of large and medium-sized companies in Mamanguape/PB. Thus, this study is based on the characteristics of competencies, delving into socio-emotional competencies and the role of leadership, as managers, in the context of competency-based management. It is a qualitative and exploratory study, with semi-structured interviews conducted with 5 managers, adopting discourse analysis through 7 categories. The results indicate that socio-emotional competencies, such as empathy, emotional balance, working under pressure, supporting others, teamwork, and regulation of emotions, are portrayed in everyday work, focusing on the dimensions of self-management and social awareness. It is concluded that these competencies exert a differential in the work sphere of managers, since they demand the development of emotional awareness for a healthy and collaborative social relationship in the work environment. This skill becomes increasingly necessary for leaders due to more subjective demands in the work context, which cannot be met solely through technical skills.
