Politica de I A
The Revista Gestão em Análise (ReGeA) recognizes technological advancements and Artificial Intelligence; however, it views its use essentially as a technical support and auxiliary tool. All of these possibilities must be conditioned upon and in compliance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and national recommendations for scientific integrity. It is also highlighted that researchers assume full ethical and civil liability for the presented material. Any applications of technological resources in the investigative process must be rigorously declared in the manuscript, ensuring the transparency and scientific integrity of the work.
The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the government agency responsible for promoting research in Brazil, has established the Policy on Integrity in Scientific Activity. In practice, this is a set of guidelines designed to ensure that research is conducted ethically, honestly, and under high quality standards.
--> How is the use of Artificial Intelligence handled?
The new directive clarifies that AI can only be used as a support tool, and not to conduct research in place of the author.
--> What is permitted when using AI:
- Enhance writing: correct grammar and make the text clearer and more fluid.
- Structure ideas: assist in organizing topics and the sequence of reasoning.
- Offer coding support: collaborate in creating or reviewing computer programs.
- Translate content: convert texts from one language to another.
--> The main rule
Artificial intelligence must act as a complementary resource, but it never replaces the researcher. Critical analysis, authorship, and responsibility for the content strictly remain the scientist's duty throughout the entire academic production process.
--> The fundamental requirement: total transparency
For the use of Artificial Intelligence to be accepted, the researcher must fulfill three indispensable steps:
- Disclose utilization: it is mandatory to explicitly declare that an AI tool was used in the work.
- Explain the purpose: the way the technology was employed in the research must be clearly described (e.g., translation, textual review, or support in organizing ideas).
- Assume responsibility: the author must fully review the material, as any flaws generated by the system remain the responsibility of the user.
Remember:
Technology acts solely as a technical support. The person who signs and legally answers as the sole author of the study is the human researcher.
Technology acts solely as a technical support. The person who signs and legally answers as the sole author of the study is the human researcher.
--> WHAT IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED?
The primary infraction stipulated in this new regulation is intellectual dishonesty. It is strictly forbidden to hide the authorship of materials produced by automated systems.
What constitutes a serious misconduct:
- Appropriation of authorship: publishing content generated by automated tools while claiming authorship for oneself.
- Falsification of academic documents: employing this practice in the drafting of articles, dissertations, or theses.
- Tampering with accountability reports: using automated systems to write official technical reports without properly declaring their use.
--> The direct consequence:
This conduct is formally classified as a violation of scientific integrity. In practice, this means breaching professional ethics, which can result in the invalidation of the study and sanctions against the responsible party.
--> Who holds legal liability?
The use of technological assistants does not exempt professionals from their obligations. The researcher remains solely responsible for all presented material.
The scientist assumes exclusive responsibility for:
- Technical flaws: answering for mistakes, incorrect information, or contradictions generated by the system.
- Prejudices and biases: identifying and eliminating biases or discriminatory content reproduced by algorithms.
- False data: ensuring the accuracy of information, preventing so-called "hallucinations" or fictitious content produced by machines.
--> The tool's limitation:
Artificial intelligence systems do not possess rights, duties, or legal personality. For this reason, AI never shares the authorship of a research study. The system is merely an instrument; the scientist remains the sole author and responsible party.
--> Ethical risks and consequences
The careless or dishonest use of new technologies can seriously jeopardize an academic career. Failure to comply with the rules can lead to severe consequences.
Main risks of improper use:
- Undue copying: committing plagiarism, intentional or not, since systems can reproduce third-party content without proper credit.
- Unethical conduct: constituting professional malpractice by attempting to bypass traditional research methods.
- Institutional sanctions: suffering severe penalties within the university environment or research centers.
--> What happens in case of suspicion:
The new CNPq regulation establishes that any sign of irregularity will be subject to a formal investigation. If fraud is proven, the agency may apply severe penalties, ranging from the loss of a scholarship to the obligation to return government-funded resources.
