Study on quality of work life among student-workers at the Federal University of Cariri

This study aimed to examine how the dimensions of quality of work life (QWL) are perceived by student-workers at the Center for Applied Social Sciences of the Federal University of Cariri. The research is characterized as a descriptive case study with a quantitative approach. Data were collected using Walton’s (1973) Quality of Work Life scale and analyzed through descriptive and bivariate statistical procedures. The main findings were as follows: (a) there was a moderate overall level of QWL, with three factors—legal/constitutional rights; work and total life space; and the social relevance of work life—reporting the highest mean scores; (b) there were significant correlations between QWL factors and the categories of age group and total length of professional experience; (c) the correlation between the QWL factor "working conditions" and total work time suggested a perceived decline in working conditions over time; and (d) the "compensation (rewards)" factor recorded the lowest scores, indicating potential dissatisfaction with the benefits provided by organizations, according to the perceptions of the student-workers.
