Objective: The article aims to discuss the relation between the growth of online betting and sports matches with movements considered suspicious. The approach begins with an analysis of Brazilian regulation up to the advent of Law No. 13,756, dated December 12, 2018, which allowed sports betting in the country. Subsequently, aspects related to combating match-fixing and the criminalization of private corruption were addressed. The goal is to understand what measures are necessary to ensure the integrity of this market.
Methodology: Deductive and historical methods were employed, along with normative research. The study of regulations on sports betting and private corruption in Brazil aimed to establish the possible relation between the increase in online betting and, simultaneously, suspicious movements in sports matches in the country.
Results: After a long wait, the need for regulation on the topic was met by Law No. 14,790, dated December 29, 2023, which imposed certain limits on the online sports betting market. However, the effects of these rules require actions from the government, which must establish measures for their better execution, particularly concerning the supervision of betting operators.
Contributions: By outlining the current legislative landscape in Brazil regarding the online betting market, the article highlights the main challenges for the development of this area, contributing to the formulation of assertive measures aimed at ensuring a safer and more transparent environment for bettors.
